Courage and confidence

Many people come to me ultimately seeking confidence. It may not be the presenting issue, but it's often what lies beneath.

Confidence to make the right decision, lead the right way, say the right thing, take the next step, to manage the load, to do the hard thing, to make a big change.

It’s fair to feel self-doubt when your decisions create ripple effects for your colleagues, your team, your community.

And confidence can feel like an intangible, elusive beast, but it can be built.

The first step is to get crystal clear on what you want, rather than focusing on the 'what ifs'. Then, examine the beliefs that might be are getting in your way - are they evidenced?

Explore your options with no filter and take small, deliberate steps. Experiment, practice and iterate, being gentle with yourself for tackling the challenge. Remove the expectation of perfection and have trusted allies in your corner.

It takes courage and a dose of vulnerability to examine the what fuels your self-doubt. But as Brené Brown says, vulnerability is “the birthplace of courage, creativity and connection.”

What else would you add to build confidence?
