Over it?

It’s common for people to reach a milestone in their career, or a role they’ve worked hard to attain, only to find that it doesn’t bring the fulfilment they expected.

Feeling flat, frustrated or dissatisfied is a sign that something needs to change. While it can be uncomfortable, it can also be a catalyst, pushing you to explore a new path.

Often, these feelings stem from obligations we’ve imposed on ourselves, not ones we necessarily need to fulfil.

I recently worked with a CEO who felt restless and discontented but trapped. Despite being at the peak of her career, she couldn't see a way through, or out.

Meetings were frustrating, questions annoying and she resented the relentless complaining from staff. She was too busy but bored, and in short was feeling 'completely over it'.

Rather than planning an exit, we worked on adapting her current situation, allowing her to reshape her role and approach rather than abandon it entirely.

We made several shifts which not only relieved her frustration but freed up significant time so that she could enjoy work and life again.

She's now enjoying weekend adventures and catching up with friends and family without worrying about quarantining energy to get through the week.

So those inner rumbles can serve a good purpose. They are a signal that it's time to re-assess how you work with fresh eyes, rather than assuming you need to exit left.
