At this time of the year, you may be feeling frustrated that your reward for effort hasn't paid off fast enough. Especially now, when you may be a little less energised and resilient (aka totally 'over it').
You've done all the things and given it everything, so you might a bit brow beaten by the relentless bumps in the road. Fair enough, I get it!
One way to think about the leadership experience is as a lovely long hike - sometimes you'll be lost, sometimes exhausted, sometimes exhilarated. Just when you think you're up the top, you round the corner and there's another rise. Then you confidently stride down the other side full of the joy, before another the gradient kicks in again.
It's not just the one hill to conquer, every turn presents a new landscape and challenge. Not to mention the rocks you look under along the way.
Get a birds' eye view and look back at how far you've come and how high you've climbed. Even just a few meters vertical will give you new perspectives that you didn't have before.
Savour the downhills and embrace the ups as part of your strength training.
If it's wearing you down, do what any good hiker would do. Take your shoes off, enjoy some nature and have a really good rest before you set off again.
Can you tell I'm dreaming of the holidays?
