Team offtrack?

If you’re feeling frustrated or a bit bewildered by your team at the moment, you’re not alone.


Things have got a whole lot more complicated lately. We’ve got a heady mix of hybrid work, constant turnover, resourcing gaps, four generations thrown together and a hot mess of expectations about the world of work.


So understandably, a lot of things are going sideways, painfully slowly or around in circles.


🚉 When teams are offtrack, it’s a sure sign to re-group, assess, re-connect and clarify the way forward. Please humour me with the analogy here…


🚅 Clarify the destination: Crystalise the purpose, priorities and direction

🚅 Check the engine: Look under the lid and diagnose the problems

🚅 All aboard: Get the team together, explore the issues, priorities and next steps

🚅 Respond to the signals: Seek input and action the findings

🚅 Clear the path: Remove the barriers to getting things done

🚅 Toot at the stations: Measure, communicate and celebrate progress

🚅 Conduct routine checks: Check in, support, recognise, course correct

🚅 Walk the carriages: Stay visible, available, connected, updated

🚅 Drive the train: Show the way, keep things on track, look after the crew.


🚂 It's not easy, but when things get messy it helps to come back to some core practices to keep it all rolling along more smoothy. Choo choo!
