Worst case thinking

If your mind has a tendency to leap to the worst case scenario, here's a handy little article from HBR on what to do with those unhelpful thoughts....

1. Stop time travelling - trying to predict the future

2. Focus on 'what is' - not 'what if'

3. Play out the worst case scenario - and make a plan

4. Play out the best case scenario - and see what might go right

5. Go grey - acknowledge the uncertainty and nuance in any scenario

6. Get more data points - find evidence to support or refute your thoughts, or to give you courage to take the next step forward.

It can help to untangle and reframe this type of thinking by talking it through, or writing it down.
