Progress points

We’re all so fixated on moving forward and the problems that lie ahead, that it’s all too easy for progress to go unnoticed.

Progress isn’t about the big wins. It’s iterative improvement, learning and activity that moves you towards your bigger goals. If we don’t notice the progress, we can end up focusing only the on mountain ahead, which is exhausting and unrewarding for individuals and teams alike.

Noticing points of progress builds energy, satisfaction, momentum and engagement. It’s also quick, easy and free to implement.

I wrote about finding strategic space weekly yesterday, part of which is about reflection. So before you jump in to planning the week ahead, consider the week prior and write down your wins and progress.

Think of the moments where you felt happy, satisfied, challenged or proud. You may need to dig a little bit, but I promise you they will be there. Over time, it becomes a habit and is a great mood booster.

e.g.

Had a courageous conversation

Nailed a critical client meeting

Booked some time in for planning

This stuff matters. It’s moving you toward your greater goals, but is also great for confidence, resilience, clarity and momentum.

Bonus points if you do it with your team.

**Is this something you practice yourself or with your team? How does it help?
